Indians leave a Bitter taste in Grizz's mouths, take over first in SOC ASHLAND - Junior middle Kristen Bitter had a breakout game with eight kills and five stuff blocks to power Roseburg to a 15-11, 15-7 victory over Ashland in Southern Oregon Conference volleyball on Tuesday night. The fourth-ranked Indians improved to 3-0 in the SOC and 11-0 overall. Ashland fell to 2-1 in conference play. Senior outside hitter Katie Kahn added six kills for the Indians, who won a see-saw first game and then dominated the second game at Ashland High. "It's never easy to win here - we've always had trouble," Roseburg coach Bruce Myers said. "But Bitter had her best match of the season and we had several other girls play well." The 6-foot-3 Bitter and 6-1 Shannon Burmeister controlled the middle for the Indians. Burmeister added three kills and also had a strong match at the service line. Mary Pat Junkin and Taylor Jones chipped in three kills apiece for Roseburg. Ashley Fence had five kills to lead Ashland, while Marla Morin added four. GRANTS PASS 15-16, CRATER 9-14 - At Central Point, Ally Codington and Kathy Richard had seven kills each to fuel Grants Pass to the upset victory. Codington and Jessica Morton also had three aces for the Cavers (1-2 SOC), who overcame a 9-5 deficit in Game 2 to notch the win. Erin Kinney paced the Comets (1-1 SOC) with six kills. EAGLE POINT 15-15, KLAMATH UNION 7-7 - At Eagle Point, the Eagles improved to 2-1 in SOC play. Freshman right-side hitter Nicole Lucas came off the bench to record seven service points, and sophomore outside hitter Jackie Shelton and sophomore middle hitter Ashley Curtis each slammed six kills.
