Harmon exploded for 26 points, including a key 3-point basket to close the third quarter, to lead the third-ranked Pacers to a 66-54 victory over the fifth-ranked Black Tornado. North Medford, which saw its record fall to 6-1 with the loss, meets McNary in a consolation game at 1 p.m. today. "That’s the first time I’ve really seen her play in person and I was impressed," North Medford coach Tim Karrick said of Harmon. "We held her to five points in the second and third quarters, combined, but she still gets 26. That’s the mark of a great player." The Black Tornado trailed 44-40 with just a couple seconds remaining in the third period when Harmon splashed in a 25-foot, 3-point basket that gave the Pacers a 47-40 lead. "We came back and got a three-point play early in the fourth quarter, but that was still a huge basket because it gave them a little breathing room," Karrick said. Advertisement North Medford again crept within four points with three minutes left only to watch Harmon score back-to-back field goals on drives to the basket. Senior wing/post Mellisa Eastwold led North Medford with 15 points. Senior post Michelle Westermann added eight points and eight rebounds. The Panthers forced more than 30 turnovers, said coach Andrea Jaime, and notched 22 steals en route to their fifth straight win after opening the season 0-2. Senior point guard Katie Singler had seven assists and four steals to go with 11 points. Junior post Marissa Towry led all scorers with 18 points — 10 in the second quarter — and hauled in seven rebounds. Senior post Brittany Farrer chipped in with 14 points and seven boards, while freshman Tori Glover snatched up nine rebounds. South takes on Bend today.
