Council approves annexation CENTRAL POINT - Council members approved annexation of 23 acres of school district property into the city's urban growth boundary Thursday night. Located between Upton Road and Bear Creek east of Interstate 5, the property will house the district's new elementary school, being built as part of a $29.8 million bond measure approved last September. Two of three new soccer fields and a baseball field will be built this summer at the site, and Crater High School will house part of its Future Farmers of America program there. Currently zoned for low-density residential, the property would allow only limited numbers of livestock until the school district goes through the proper steps to amend their comprehensive plan and acquire a zone change. In other news, a second hearing on a fence variance request for property owners Richard and Windy Middleton was continued to the next council meeting. The continuance will allow the Middletons to meet with planning staff and discuss options available to them for completing their fence. The Middletons appealed a planning commission decision last month that denied a variance to build a six-foot fence at their property line. The current ordinance allows a maximum 42-inch fence at property lines and requires a 20-foot setback for taller fences.
