Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend September 7, 2005 Fast times on Medford roads: Pair jailed, one driver sought By JACK MORAN Mail Tribune One driver was being sought and two other drivers were in jail after three incidents over the weekend in which suspects attempted to elude Medford police at high speeds. Medford police continue to search for Steven Mahoney, 24, who allegedly sped away from officers Saturday when they tried to stop his vehicle and question him about a drug bust at his home. Mahoney was last seen by police at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, headed toward Interstate 5 in Central Point while driving a black 1996 Ford Mustang convertible. Police said Mahoney is wanted in connection with the discovery of a large amount of marijuana at his home in the 400 block of Park Avenue in Medford. Mahoney allegedly fled the scene of a traffic stop, then led police on a chase through Medford. At one point, his vehicle was clocked going over 90 mph, Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said. Police decided to stop the pursuit for safety reasons near the intersection of Biddle and Table Rock roads. The Oregon license plate number for Mahoney’s vehicle is YSS 393. Anyone with information about Mahoney or the Mustang’s whereabouts is asked to call Medford police at 770-4783. Advertisement Earlier Saturday, Oscar Espinosa, 28, of Central Point was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on several felony charges relating to a police chase between Medford and Ashland in which speeds reached 90 mph, Moran said. Espinosa was jailed on charges of eluding police, reckless driving, reckless endangering and driving under the influence of alcohol. Moran said investigators are working to determine if any of several car stereos found in Espinosa’s pickup were stolen. On Sunday afternoon, Medford police arrested Tammi Napier, 44, of Covington, Wash,. after she led police on a chase along Highway 99. Napier, who was allegedly driving a stolen Jeep Wrangler during the chase between Ashland and Medford, was arraigned Tuesday in Jackson County Circuit Court on felony charges of unlawful use of a vehicle and attempting to elude police. She also faces misdemeanor charges of hit-and-run driving, second-degree criminal mischief and reckless driving, and was being held in jail late Tuesday on $20,000 bail.
