GIRLS HOOPS: Comets fall prey to Wolverines By Mail Tribune staff Dec 10, 2022 08:11 PM A A EUGENE — Crater was unable to fully dig out of an early hole and dropped the second end of its two-day trip up north, 50-31 to former Midwestern League girls basketball foe Willamette on Saturday evening. The Comets (2-4) trailed by as little as five points late in the third quarter, but saw the Wolverines (2-0) quickly push their lead back into double digits moments later. Sage Winslow scored 11 points and recorded seven steals to lead Crater, which lost to defending Class 5A champion Crescent Valley in overtime on Friday night. Crater’s Samantha Gish grabbed four rebounds while Lydia Traore also had four rebounds and two blocks. Willamette, which was unbeaten in the MWL last year before moving up to 6A and joining the Southwest Conference this season, got a game-high 17 points from sophomore wing Brynn Smith. SWEET HOME 25, PHOENIX 23: At Sweet Home, Phoenix was able to rally from a 10-point, first-quarter deficit and held a lead with two minutes to go but the Pirates weren’t able to hold on down the stretch against Sweet Home. Anabell Delgado scored 11 points to lead Phoenix (3-2), which trailed 12-2 after the first quarter. Sweet Home (3-2), which scored just three points in the fourth quarter, was led by Brooke Burke’s 10 points. PHOENIX (23): James 2, Nolan 0, Woodward 2, Mohamud 2, Delgado 11, Rector 6, McConnell 0. NORTH DOUGLAS 47, RV ADVENTIST 39: Emma Bischoff had 20 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks for host Rogue Valley Adventist but No. 4-ranked North Douglas was able to rally in the second half and pull away toward the end with free throws.
