Eight wrestlers advanced to today's semifinals for the Black Tornado, which has 140.5 points. Henley (139.5) is second, followed by Cascade (107.5), Lowell (105) and Phoenix (95). Ashland (27) is 25th. Phoenix advanced three to the semifinals. North Medford has three top seeds. Henry Cox (113 pounds) and Cole Hornbrook (160) each recorded a pair of pins, and Wyatt Westfall (170) advanced with a technical fall and a pin. Also for the Tornado, fifth-seeded Anthony Neuenschwander (120) had a pin and a 14-1 major decision; No. 5 Robert Biddle (132) won by fall thrice; No. 6 Thomas Hamilton (132) registered two pins and a 6-4 decision; No. 6 Joshua Robbins (195) had a pin and a 7-3 decision; and No. 7 Caleb Dix (145) won by technical fall, fall and major decision (14-3). For Phoenix, second-seeded Trace Vega (195) picked up a pair of triumphs via pin, No. 4 Cedar King (138) advanced with a pin and a 7-4 decision, and Mark McAllister (145) moved on with a pin, medical forfeit and 8-0 major decision. Vega and Robbins will meet in the semifinals. Swimming MWL MEET: At Eugene, the Ashland girls beat Churchill, 93-70, during a three-team Midwestern League meet featuring Churchill, Crater and the Grizzlies at Echo Hollow Pool. Ashland's Olivia McMonagle won the 100-yard freestyle (1 minute, 6.42 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:15.91) and was part of the winning 200 free relay (2:04.29) and 200 medley relay (2:17.74). The Grizzlies were also fastest in the 400 free relay (5:06.90). Teammate Sarah Ford captured first in the 200 free (2:35.23), Rose Eschtruth Harrison won the 500 free (6:31.97, a personal record by 18 seconds) and Bekkah Higgins was victorious in the 200 individual medley (2:38.97). In the Churchill boys' 107-40 win over Ashland, Alex Dobry won the 500 free (6:20.49) for the Grizzlies. In the Crater girls’ 89-58 loss to Churchill, the Comets’ Jennifer Steele won the 100 free (1:06.94), Abby Zolkoske took the 100 backstroke (1:29.35) and Crater earned victories in the 200 free relay (2:09) and 400 free relay (5:15.86). In a 107-44 loss to Churchill, Crater’s Ben Briesmeister was fastest in the 100 butterfly (1:04.04).
