Rally will view natural resource policies By PAUL FATTIG Mail Tribune The People for the USA, an organization that bills itself as a counterbalance to environmental extremism, will hold a rally promoting patriotism and "responsible natural resource policies" on April 13 at the Jackson County Fairgrounds. The day-long "Restore the Spirit of America" event is expected to draw people from throughout the nation, said event coordinator Holly Swanson, a Rogue Valley resident. "We believe the principals of liberty, justice and self-government are as much an inspiration today as when the founders wrote the Constitution," she said. "We also believe they are the keys to achieving sound management of our natural resources." In addition to firing up patriotic spirit, the rally is intended to increase public awareness about the global "green agenda" with a variety of speakers and programs, organizers said. Although the schedule of events is still being worked out, one of the entertainment highlights will be concerts by country music singer Joe Diffie at 3 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Tickets to the concerts are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Featured speakers will include Patrick Moore, one of the international leaders of Greenpeace during its first 15 years of existence. Moore, who has a doctorate in environmental science, is now an outspoken opponent of what he believes is environmental extremism. Other speakers include Helen Chenoweth-Hage, a former member of Congress from Idaho who was known for speaking out against the environmental community. Swanson, who two years ago founded Operation Green Out!, a nonprofit group dedicated to removing what it believes is a political environmental agenda from public schools, will also be speaking. Her group now has members nationwide. There also will be numerous activities in the Jackson County Exposition, including award presentations, workshops, various exhibits, a barbecue by the Jackson County Cattlemen's Association and entertainment by "Sons of the Oregon Trail" and the "Wade Black Band." There is no charge to attend the exposition portion of the rally. "We want to provide timely, quality information, and foster a greater understanding about the need for sound management of our natural resources," Swanson said. The event is intended to educate the public about how to protect important freedoms, she said. "This will be a rare opportunity to get the latest facts on issues that we all cherish," she said.
