Man shot in Wolf Creek; assailant at large Jacy Kevin McManus Friday Apr 7, 2017 at 4:00 PM Apr 7, 2017 at 5:00 PM By Troy Shinn Grants Pass Daily Courier Oregon State Police is asking for the public's help in locating a person of interest in a shooting that occurred Thursday in Wolf Creek. The shooting happened about 5 p.m. at 96 Lower Wolf Creek Road. Law enforcement arrived to find one man on the ground with a gunshot wound. The shooter had fled. Police are hunting for Jacy Kevin McManus, 35, of the Wolf Creek/Roseburg area, as a "person of interest." He is described as 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, with a freshly shaved head, blue eyes and a goatee. He has tattoos on the front of his shins ("white pride") and on his knuckles ("pain"). He was last seen wearing a black Glendale Pirates hooded sweatshirt with tan or green pants. He is considered armed and dangerous. Those who see McManus should not approach him but call OSP at 541-776-6111. Josephine County Sheriff Dave Daniel said his deputies arrived first Thursday and secured the scene before turning the investigation over to OSP detectives. The sheriff's office does not have a detective division. "An extensive search was conducted by deputies," Daniel said. "Two people were detained. ... One of them had warrants but isn't necessarily a person of interest in the shooting." The man who was arrested, Zachary Micheal Costa, 33, was wanted on outstanding failure-to-appear warrants for meth possession and reckless burning. The shooting victim, identified as Conal Moran, 55, of Wolf Creek, was transported via Mercy Flights with non-life-threatening injuries to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford. His condition was not known. The 911 call apparently came in after two children ran to a home near the scene and reported that two men had been shot with a .30-06 hunting rifle. The children were placed into protective custody by law enforcement on scene. It is not clear whether the children are related to anyone on scene. According to a release by the Wolf Creek Fire District, law enforcement initially was barred from entry to the property by a gate, but made it through a hole in the wooden fence nearby. — Reach reporter Troy Shinn at 541-474-3806 or [email protected]
