Cool weather helps runners at Shamrock race CENTRAL POINT - The cooler weather helped produce record performances from some of the more than 200 runners in Saturday's 5 and 10K Shamrock Run at Crater High. Running amongst intermittent snow flurries, University of Portland freshman Trevor Coolidge from White City broke his own 5K mark with an overall winning time of 15 minutes, 54 seconds. Coolidge set the previous mark in 2000 with a time of 16:47. Tracy Garrison, 36, of Medford was the overall 10K winner. The former Klamath Union High cross country state champion posted a mark of 33:55. Rick DeVoss, 30, of Eagle Point was second at 35:59. In the women's 10K, Beth Lipton, 26, of Grants Pass crossed the finish line first at 42:12. Ashland's Felicia Hazel turned in a runner-up effort at 42:38. Five age-group records were set in the 5K run. The most eye-popping mark was set by Sandy Whittle of Medford in the women's 50-59-year-old division. Whittle's record time run of 21:45 eclipsed the previous record of 29:56 by Glennis Dungy. Justin Loftus of Ashland set a 5K record in the men's 30-39 division with a mark of 16:33. Tom Carlton held the former record of 17:45. Rogue River freshman Allegra Fety, 14, broke the record (20:35) of former Rogue River runner Jodi Minard with a time of 20:04 in the 14-under class. Lauren Fety, 17, of Rogue River set a record in the 15-18 division. Fety's time of 19:43 erased Bobbi Wright's mark of 20:03. Medford's Bonnie Havens, the women's overall 5K winner, set a record in the 30-39 age division with a time of 19:20. Susan Julber's previous record was 21:03. The Shamrock Run is billed as the official tune-up race for the 26th annual Pear Blosom Run April 13 in Medford.
