Recent storms have created hazardous driving conditions in many parts of the forest, particularly in the area burned by the 2002 Biscuit fire. "We want the public to watch out and drive safely when traveling the Biscuit fire area," said acting forest supervisor Eric Hodnett. "This area is more prone to erosion and roadway debris after seasonal storm events." As a result, there are more downed trees and rock slide areas in the burned portion, he said. In addition, the heavy rains and high winds have also caused damage to roads in the Gold Beach Ranger District, officials said. Forest employees are still assessing the damage. If an area is closed or a detour is required, signs will be posted. Forest visitors should be prepared for inclement weather by dressing appropriately; they also should bring a shovel and tire chains.
