Pitching leads Crater to baseball sweep Prep roundup CENTRAL POINT -- Fifth-ranked Crater received splendid pitching performances from junior starters Casey Campbell and Brent Foster and reliever K.J. Chubb as the Comets remained undefeated with a 9-1 and 12-2 Southern Oregon Conference doubleheader victory against Grants Pass at Anhorn Field Saturday. The Comets improved to 4-0 in conference and 13-0 on the season. Campbell didn't walk a batter in six innings and struck out seven to improve to 5-0 on the year. The lefthander allowed three hits. The Comets erupted for five runs in the second inning on two walks, an error and two hits. Steve Rice's two-run double with the bases loaded highlighted the rally. Crater's Jason Korthals added two hits and one RBI. In the five-inning second game, Foster struck out five, allowed two hits and had no walks. Both Cavemen runs off Foster were unearned. Chubb, who combined for four strikeouts in one inning of shutout relief in both games, provided the big hit in the nightcap with a three-run homer in the third when Crater was trailing 2-1.
