Crater Lake access should be restored by Monday’s end, but park visitors shouldn’t expect to use the bathroom. The roadway connecting Highway 62 to the headquarters of Oregon’s only national park is slated to reopen Monday, but reopening facilities such as the visitor center and public restrooms after a closure lasting more than a month will take a while longer, according to a short news release issued Saturday by Crater Lake National Park. “After 35 days of closure, time is needed to clear roadways, repair leaks, open restrooms and other facilities, check fire alarm systems and ensure that the park is safe for visitors,” the statement says. No time frame was given as to how long it’ll take to restore those services. Messages left by phone and email were not immediately returned Saturday. Crater Lake National Park staff will return to work Monday after the longest shutdown in history, where they’ll focus on getting the park ready. The first stage will be to reopen the roadway connecting Highway 62 to Rim Village and the park’s headquarters, projected to open on Monday “once they are safe for travel,” according to the release.
