Bend Elks sweep RiverDogs, again BEND - The Bend Elks have proven to be a tough team to beat even when a team is playing at its best. The Southern Oregon RiverDogs weren't exactly at their best Saturday night, and that was all Bend (20-6) needed as the Elks swept a doubleheader, 7-2 and 6-3. Saturday's games marked the second straight day in which Bend swept a double dip from the RiverDogs, with the Elks taking Friday's games 6-5 and 12-3. The two teams will go at it again Tuesday night at Miles Field in a nine-inning game beginning at 7 p.m. The RiverDogs (7-5) committed four errors in the opener and five in the nightcap to hurt their own cause. In Game 1, Bend scored five of its seven runs in the first inning using four hits and two errors by the RiverDogs to earn the early lead. Brad Quick, who finished the game with two hits and two RBIs, sparked the surge with an RBI double for Bend. Bill Allen and Bill Holm each added two hits for the Elks, while Southern Oregon's Caleb Robbins and Andy Bartels countered with two hits apiece. In Game 2, the RiverDogs managed a 3-all tie in the fifth inning before Bend put the game away with three runs in the sixth. Allen smacked a two-run homer to put Bend ahead. Bill Holm then singled, stole second and advanced the final two bases on throwing errors by the RiverDogs. Bartels and Colby Gonzales each went 2-for-3 in the nightcap for Southern Oregon, while Holm and Andy Narver had two hits for Bend.
