Ballots go out Friday, Oct. 21, and must be returned to the Jackson County Elections Office by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8. David B. Arrasmith Age: Not given Residence: Central Point Occupation: Jackson County deputy assessor Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, Certificate in Real Estate, Accredited Green Appraiser, passed the CPA exam Political experience: Past chairman of the Rogue Valley Transportation District and member of the Rogue Valley Council of Governments Top priorities: The biggest challenge is to ensure the Assessor's Department serves the public and the state with optimal efficiency, fiscal responsibility and exceptional customer service, in congruence with the other departments of Jackson County. Also to accurately and fairly certify the tax roll each year and delivery of tax statements as designated by law. These two key points are pivotal in best serving the county and the constituents. Angela Stuhr Age: 50 Occupation: Medford deputy assessor, lead appraiser Residence: Jackson County Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration Political experience: None Top two priorities: First, I will connect with real estate experts and citizens outside our office to identify improvements we can make to our values and records. Of particular concern is land values, where a majority of our lot sales are recorded as part of a builder's total price, including improvements to the property. Second, I will network with other counties to identify ways to improve our appraisal process. I will work with Oregon State Association of County Assessors to propose changes to statutes that lack clearly defined criteria, result in inconsistent interpretations, and result in MAV (maximum assessed value) reductions not based on certified tax roll data.
