Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend March 19, 2006 SOU romps past Albertson Raider Roundup TUALATIN — After dropping last year’s matchup to Albertson College, Southern Oregon’s women’s tennis team turned the tables to notch a 7-2 win in the Cascade Conference outing. With the victory, the Raiders improved their conference-leading record to 7-1. "It was nice to do well, especially without our No. 1 player," said SOU coach Gail Patton about ace Annie Chaney. "We’re looking to make a run at regionals and this was a test to see how strong we are this year." Raiders top seed Katie Ross dropped a close match in singles to Albertson’s Kyla Westerburg, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, but bounced back with Iuliia Efunia in doubles to win 8-4. Track & Field UNIVERSITY OF OREGON PREVIEW — At Eugene, Southern Oregon University track standouts Trevor Palmer and Scott Myers qualified for May’s national championships with their solid performances on Saturday at Hayward Field. Palmer, a Crater High graduate, met the national standard by placing fifth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:50.98. He also finished fourth in the 800 at 1:53.63, and nearly qualified in the 100 with a fourth-place finish. North Medford graduate Myers, who was last year’s national champ in the shot put and second in the discus, qualified for both with throws of 57- feet, 3½ -inches in the shot put and 160-4 in the discus. Emily Dunn took second in the women’s 100 with a time of 12:58 and joined the SOU women’s 4x100 relay team of Rachael Hinze, Megan Confer and Joseph Fairbanks in placing second behind Concordia University. The men’s 4x100 relay team placed first in 43.15, with Jeremiah Lewman, Dan Martin, Brett Hopt and Gordon Grochowsky. In the 400-meter hurdles, Lewman finished with a fourth-place time of 55.73.
