Prostitution court case delayed By JILL BRISKEY A court case was delayed Tuesday for a Washington man upset because a woman from a Medford escort service allegedly refused to have sex with him. The man, a long-haul trucker from Arlington, Wash., called Medford police to tell them he had been ripped off. Officers ended up charging both with prostitution. Although the case was set for trial Tuesday, neither showed up for court. Proceedings were bumped to Monday, according to Jackson County Deputy District Attorney Rachel Bridges. Michael Leroy Jantz was cited by police following the incident, which reportedly took place at a local motel on Jan. 23. Police also cited Medford resident Tara Nicole McFall, 18, of the 500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. Bridges said a bench warrant was issued for McFall on Tuesday for failure to appear in court. According to Medford police Sgt. Roy Skinner, Jantz allegedly contacted a Medford escort service after spotting an advertisement in a local newspaper. Jantz later told police a person from the escort service said the "date" would cost $120, Skinner said. Jantz told police that an employee said additional services must be discussed with the girl, Skinner added. When McFall showed up, Skinner said, the two drove to a liquor store and then back to the motel. McFall allegedly refused to have sex with Jantz but offered to perform another sex act for an additional $50. The two argued, and McFall reportedly left the motel with only $20 and a bottle of liquor, he said. Jantz then called police to complain. Medford police have investigated a total of three reports of prostitution this year. In 1999, Medford police received four reports of prostitution and three in 2000. Six escort services operate in Medford with valid business licenses. Those agencies cannot receive a business license without first being interviewed by Medford police. Prostitution is a misdemeanor, a charge that includes both the person soliciting a sexual act for money and the person performing the act, Skinner said.
