New hours announced for five Jackson County libraries Sunday Apr 9, 2017 at 11:01 PM Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune @RyanPfeil Five Jackson County libraries will have new hours beginning May 1. The Medford, Central Point, Gold Hill, Phoenix and White City branches are affected by the change, with extended hours on some days, reductions on others and some new daily closures. The branches will be open the same number of hours per week as they were before the changes. "It was just reallocation of existing hours," said JCLS Director Jamar Rahming. "There's no gain or loss." The biggest changes are coming to the Central Point and Gold Hill branches, both of which will now be open Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. The new hours are based on recommendations from focus groups consulted during the library system's yearlong strategic planning process. The focus groups included library patrons, library officials and community leaders.  "Mainly we just did this to better respond to community needs," Rahming said. "We just felt like we could better serve our customers this way." Starting in May, the Medford branch will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, noon to 4 p.m. Friday and Sunday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Central Point will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Gold Hill will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, 1 to 5 p.m. Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Phoenix will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. White City will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. — Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected].
