The 17th annual Senior Royalty Scholarship Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the North Medford High Auditorium. Contestants are Victoria Mayfield of Ashland High School; Jossalyn Berg of Butte Falls High; Annie Longwill of Cascade Christian High School, Kristen Haga of Crater High, Hillary Burrelle of North Medford High; Elisabeth Shinn of Phoenix High, Ciara Reed of South Medford High; Kaitlyn Sinclair of Eagle Point High; and Caitlin Lewis of Prospect High. The young women will be judged on school leadership skills, academic achievement, community involvement, an interview with the judges, writing and presenting an essay, and answering impromptu questions on stage. Contestants must have a grade-point average of 3.5 or better to enter. The Senior Royalty Committee chose the top five candidates from each school, and then each school selected its princess. More than 50 applications are received each year from area schools. Each princess automatically earns a $500 college scholarship. The winner becomes queen, reigns over the Pear Blossom Parade on April 14, and receives a $2,000 college scholarship. The queen's scholarship is sponsored by Bank of the Cascades. Advertisement Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for students, kids under 6 enter free. Over the last 16 years, the Pear Blossom Festival Association has given out more than $90,000 in scholarships to more than 120 young women in our community. The Pear Blossom Junior Royalty Court, to be selected earlier that day, will present bouquets donated by Corinne's Flowers to the princesses. The Gaytane's Salon is sponsoring a DVD player for the second runner up, and Bi-Mart is sponsoring a set of luggage for the first runner up. Would you like to respond to this story?
