North Medford runs away from Lebanon The Black Tornado girls basketball team started fast, fizzled in the second quarter, then rebounded for a 53-42 non-league win over Lebanon Thursday. North led 17-9 after one quarter but scored only five second-period points. "We substituted quite a bit in the second quarter," said Tornado coach J.T. Thomas. "I think combined with that, we relaxed a little too much. We just have to get the kids coming into the game to go at the same pace, and tonight they weren't ready." For that reason, he said, there were fewer second-half substitutions. "It was a lesson for the club," he said. North (3-5) righted itself in the third quarter for the comfortable win. Brittany Hodges, slowed by a couple of ankle sprains, played only about a dozen minutes but scored 13 points, including 10 in the second half. Kerstin Mellbye recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Chelsea Rettmann came off the bench to score nine of her 13 points in the first half. "She really picked up the scoring for us early on," said Thomas. North point guard Anna Lilly had six assists and three steals and took good care of the ball in the second half, when the Warriors were scrambling to get back into it. When she lapsed into foul trouble, Kailey Bostwick filled in and ran the team well. Klamath (2-6) made only 11-of-21 free throws in the fourth quarter. Henley was led by Katherine Stock and Candice McClung, each with 14 points.
