Tim Doney said. In separate incidents, a 23-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were taken into custody after getting physical with Medford police officers. Just after 11 p.m., officer Brandon Bloomfield was flagged down by an employee of a tavern in the 400 block of East Main Street, who said an intoxicated man left the bar after spitting on several customers. Bloomfield caught up to the man, Mark Richard Jones, and handcuffed him with the intention of taking him to the county’s sobering unit. But after Jones spit in Bloomfield’s face, the officer instead decided to take him to the Jackson County Jail, Doney said. Things got worse when they arrived at the jail, where Jones head-butted Bloomfield while getting out of the patrol car. Jones, 23, no known address, was arraigned Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court on charges of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and physical harassment. He was being held in the jail late Wednesday without bail, according to a jail spokeswoman. Advertisement The area around Bloomfield’s eye became swollen after the head-butt, Doney said. At around the same time Bloomfield met up with Jones, officer Mark Patterson was patrolling the area of 10th and Mistletoe streets when a group of youngsters waved him down and asked that he take home a "highly intoxicated" 16-year-old girl who was running down the street, Doney said. The girl did not want to go home, and punched Patterson in the chest when he grabbed her arm and tried to get her to come with him. She was handcuffed, and avoided arrest only after officials at juvenile hall recommended Patterson cite the girl and release her to her parents, Doney said. The girl was ticketed for harassment. Patterson was not injured.
