Rogues continue perfect start, rout Seagulls By Mail Tribune Staff Jun 08, 2019 10:13 PM A A Brice Foster picked up his third win and Phoenix native Joe Johnson belted his first home run of the year as the Medford Rogues remained undefeated with an 11-1 win over the San Francisco Seagulls Saturday night at Harry & David Field. After breaking the record for best start to a season earlier, the 2019 Rogues (9-0) are in the midst of their longest winning streak in franchise history. Foster allowed one run in six strong innings to improve to 3-0, the best mark in the Golden State Collegiate Baseball League. He struck out two and walked one. Omar Ortiz led off the bottom of the second inning with a double to the deepest part of the ballpark, a blast which kicked off a six-run inning for the Rogues. Turner Olson and Maxx Mahon also doubled for Medford, which had 12 hits on the day. Joe Johnson hit a solo shot to right field. San Francisco (4-3) starter Jake Pizzo gave up seven runs on seven hits and was tagged with the loss. He struck out four with a walk. American Legion A NORTH MEDFORD 13-4, ASHLAND 11-3: Cody Borraggine had three hits and picked up the pitching victory in Game 1, and Dylan Empasis laid down a perfect bunt to score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 2 as the Mavericks pulled out a pair of close games in the Area 4 showdown at North Medford High. In the opener, Borraggine went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs and struck out seven in five innings of work on the mound to lead North Medford (3-0). Tyler Dunlevy went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI triple for the Mavericks, who scored six runs in the fourth to take control. Ashland’s Dillan Anway went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Nick Buccino 2-for-5 with two runs. In Game 2, the game was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh when AJ Balsiger hit a leadoff triple. Two batters later, Empasis bunted the ball in front of the plate as Balsiger raced home to easily score the winning run in walk-off fashion. Dunlevy went 2-for-2 with two runs and two stolen bases for North. Ashland’s Eli Westrick went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI single.
