LOCAL ROUNDUP Lucas continues torrid pace, scores five goals in soccer win DEL NORTE, Calif -- Stephanie Lucas continued her goal-scoring tear, netting five more shots Monday in helping Eagle Point stun Del Norte, 8-0, in non-conference girls soccer action. Lucas has scored 15 goals in three non-conference games this season, amazing even Eagle Point coach Tim Sweeney. "It's not really supposed to be that easy to score, but she sure makes it look that way sometimes," said Sweeney. Lucas had a hat trick by halftime to help the Eagles (3-0) take a 3-0 lead into intermission. The senior added two more in the second half, while freshman Heather Morton notched her first two goals in high school action and senior Necia Wilkinson added a goal. Junior Tiffany Cherry pitched the shutout in goal for Eagle Point, with defenders Michelle Morton, Terra Jackson and Jennifer Logan limiting Del Norte to six shots on goal. Freshman Jenna Bilden had three assists. Despite the lopsided victory, Sweeney said he wasn't entirely pleased with his team's effort as they approach Southern Oregon Conference play. "We made a lot of mistakes and a lot of mental mistakes," he said. "We need to get those worked out quick, or otherwise we're going to be up against it when the league season comes around."
