The power was restored at 9:02 a.m., according to Pacific Power's website. Company officials say the outage was caused by the failure of a "jumper," which connects main power lines to individual homes and businesses. What caused the failure is not known, but the cable did come loose, causing the outage. 8 a.m. A downed power line in east Medford knocked out power to 1,627 Pacific Power customers. Pacific Power crews and Medford Fire-Rescue are still on scene near Tripp and Ninth streets, with the road blocked off while crews try to figure out what caused the line to fall and get power restored. The incident was first reported as a structure fire at 7:07 a.m., according to Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon logs. Crews responded and found a power line had fallen and slipped down into some trees and a nearby metal fence, according to Medford Fire battalion chief Ken Goodson. Initial reports suggested it had fallen onto a roof and was smoldering, though that was determined to be untrue by responding crews. No injuries were reported. Power is out to the surrounding neighborhood until at least 10:30 a.m., according to Pacific Power's website. Parts of main thoroughfares like East Main Street and Crater Lake Avenue are affected, including several nearby side streets. At least three traffic lights along East Main Street are out. The Medford School District is also reporting on their Twitter account that power is out at Roosevelt Elementary, but that it will remain open.
