Three boys charged in thefts CENTRAL POINT - Three teenage boys were arrested on burglary and theft charges after a tip from one of their mothers helped solve a string of recent burglaries in the city's west side, authorities said. The mother of a 16-year-old Crater High School sophomore noticed some bags of cash and jewelry in her son's room, believed the items may have been stolen and telephoned police Sunday, according to the Central Point Police Department. An investigation ensued, and police were able to identify a 14-year-old Medford boy and 15-year-old Central Point boy as the remainder of a trio responsible for at least four, and possibly five, house burglaries over the past four weeks, Central Point police Lt. Tony McPherson said. The break-ins occurred in the afternoon or evening between April 26 and Saturday, and all were within walking distance of two of the boys' west Central Point residences, McPherson said. The thieves entered the homes through unlocked doors or windows, he said. Jewelry, coins, watches and alcohol were reported stolen, he said. Stolen items were found in all three suspects' homes, and most of the items reported stolen in the break-ins have been recovered, McPherson said. The teenagers were lodged at the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center on burglary and theft charges. The parents of all three suspects have been cooperative with police, McPherson said.
