Now we are wondering in what movie she sang "Lili Marlene." — Jeannine B. Well, Jeannine, we were about to reply, why, "Lili Marlene" of course, when we doubled-checked. Good thing. In one of those surefire bar-bet winners, the title of the 1944 English film directed by Humphrey Jennings was "Lili Marleen." The picture is about the rise of a cabaret singer used by the Nazis, played by Ms. Cabaret herself, Dietrich, singing the song unforgettably. Advertisement The lyrics are from a 1918 poem by a German soldier named Hans Leip set to music by German composer Norbert Schultze.
