SOU rules boards, tips Cascade PORTLAND -- Despite shooting only 35 percent from the field,the Southern Oregon University women's basketball team improved significantly in two major areas on Monday. The Raiders dominated the offensive boards, 28-16, and forced 26 turnovers to beat Cascade College, 74-54. "We got better shots and, unlike last night, we made the shots when they were there," said Southern Oregon coach Shirley Huyett, referring to a 63-47 loss to Eastern Oregon on Sunday. SOU (8-7, 0-1 Cascade Conference) connected on 5-of-12 from the 3-point line in the first half to take a 36-25 lead going into the break. "Making that many 3's was a big factor," said Huyett. "It made them (Cascade) extend out to the perimeter and opened up some easy shots for us inside." Lauren Mohan scored 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting and had four steals to lead the Raiders. Kara Magee-Arick and Liz Brenan also scored in double figures for Southern Oregon with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Brenan dished out five assists to go along with three of the Raiders' 13 steals. Overall, SOU out-rebounded the Thunderbirds 47-41 with Tiwana Merritt's eight boards leading the way. Josha Moss dumped in 24 points to lead Cascade.
