But the good news for fans is that the film very likely will be shown at the Varsity theater in Ashland this summer. Only about 1,000 copies are being released later this month through Lions Gate Films of Los Angeles in cooperation with the Fellowship Adventure Group and IFC Films. That means Coming Attractions Theatres Inc. of Ashland, which operates the Varsity theater, will have to vie with other small movie houses for a shot at the film, said Lee Fuchsmann, vice president of booking and operations. "They haven’t decided exactly how many prints they’ll make available," Fuchsmann explained. Advertisement Moore’s newest documentary, which recently won the prestigious Palm D’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival, criticizes the Bush administration for missing terrorist warnings before the Sept. 11 attacks, and for using the tragedy to justify support for the war in Iraq. The Walt Disney Co. blocked Miramax from distributing the film in North America, prompting Miramax co-owners Harvey and Bob Weinstein to buy the film, form the Fellowship Adventure Group and distribute it themselves.
