To help that effort, nine chapters of the Oregon Hunters Association and two other organizations have donated $4,500 toward finding the person or people responsible. Four hunters discovered the ram's headless body Jan. 22 in an area east of the Owyhee Reservoir, according to the Oregon State Police. Further details of the crime were unavailable this week. Troopers from the OSP Fish and Wildlife Division hope to bring in a wildlife forensics expert to help find any evidence that could move the case forward, police said. Anyone with information on the incident was urged to call state police at 541-889-6469. Advertisement The case is getting highlighted through the Turn In Poachers program run by the Medford-based OHA. The nine OHA chapters, including the Klamath and Umpqua chapters, together donated $3,250. The remaining money came in the form of donations from the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers and the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep. California bighorn sheep were re-introduced into the lower Owyhee River area in 1965. The herd now numbers around 200 bighorns. u Hunters have until Saturday night to apply for black bear tags for the upcoming controlled hunt on bruins each spring. The hunt includes 3,333 available tags for the Southwest Oregon hunt, which runs April 15 through May 31. Point of Sale license outlets will take applications and the $4.50 fee until 10:59 p.m. Saturday. A random computer drawing will then occur and hunters will be notified of results by Feb. 20. Any leftover spring bear hunt tags will be sold on a first come, first served basis at Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife offices and Point of Sale outlets beginning at 10 a.m. March 22.
