They continued to work for the Pirates Thursday night in a 25-18, 25-16, 25-20 win over Mazama. The win lifted Phoenix to 7-0 in the Skyline Conference. "Our outsides did a great job of attacking on the wing," Phoenix coach Tom Murphy said. "It was enough for us tonight to keep them off-balance. It is what we have to do to compete with teams that are taller than us." Senior outside hitters Ashley McArdee (seven kills) and Jessica Howard (six kills) led a balanced attack. Junior middle hitter Kelsey Nelson contributed six kills and was a force up front with six blocks. While the Pirates were only 91 percent at the service line, above average performances by Aurora Fry and Shonda George carried the team. Fry was 12-for-12 and George served six aces. "Our strategy was to do things that would disrupt their game, and for the most part, we did."
