The 22-year-old mother of three had been using methamphetamine since age 16, behavior passed down from her own mother. But she realized a year ago that if she was going to survive to raise her family, she needed to give up drugs. Child welfare workers had taken her son and daughter into protective custody, and the woman was living at a Medford homeless shelter. "She doesn't have family in the area," said caseworker Marie Bagley. "Her mother is still using (meth)." The woman gave birth to a third and drug-free child at Addictions Recovery Center's residential treatment program in Medford. She went through parenting classes and blossomed, Bagley said. With the help of ARC, the woman has remained "clean" for the past year. She was reunited with her children, is looking for part-time work and has a safe place to live. Advertisement While her Medford apartment is fairly well furnished, the woman wishes for rugs or carpeting to cover the cold tile floors. Carpets would provide a warm, safe cushion for her 3-year-old twins and 7-month-old daughter, who is learning to crawl. The woman's downstairs neighbors also would appreciate the noise buffer. Three rooms need rugs, two measuring 10 feet square and one measuring 12 feet square. The woman also would like a crib for her baby, who sleeps in a playpen.
