Raiders to play host to No. 4 Carroll College in quarterfinals The NAIA announced seventh-ranked Southern Oregon University will play host to fourth-ranked Carroll College in the national football quarterfinals at Raider Stadium next Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m. Southern (9-1) rolled into the quarterfinals by dismantling McKendree (Ill.) College 54-10 Saturday in the school's first postseason appearance since 1987. The victory, SOU's school-record seventh straight at home and fourth consecutive overall, allowed the squad to equal the 1983 team for most victories in a season. Carroll, a private college of 1,300 students located in Helena, Mont., dispatched 12th-ranked Valley City State, N.D. 45-27 in its home first-round clash. The Fighting Saints (9-1) lost to eventual NAIA champion Georgetown, Ky. in last year's national semifinals. The Frontier Conference champion Fighting Saints and their wide-open offensive attack is spearheaded by 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior quarterback J.D. Emmert, who set a school passing yardage record last season (3,597) and entered the playoffs ranked third nationally for passing (252.8) and seventh for total offense (248). CC leads the country for rush defense as a result of holding foes to a 46.4 game clip. The clash is the first meeting between the schools, although the squads each defeated a pair of common opponents, Montana State-Northern and Rocky Mountain, by similar margins this season. Other NAIA quarterfinal pairings has 15 ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) at Tope-ranked Georgetown (Ky.). No. 5 Sioux Falls (S.D.) vs. No. 8 Concordia (Neb.) and sixth-ranked Benedictine (Kan.) vs. No. 3 Evangel (Mo.). Tickets are available at McNeal Hall starting this afternoon. Cost is $10 for reserved grandstand, $7 for grandstand general admission, $5 for uncovered general admission and $4 for students. All seats cost $10 on game day.
