Cop shooter gets 20 years in prison A man convicted of attempting to murder two Medford police officers has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. Under the state�s mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines, Moises Sanchez-Llamas won�t be eligible for early release for 17 years. For the remaining three years of the 20-year sentence, Sanchez-Llamas will be required to serve at least 80 percent of the remaining time before he qualifies for release. Sanchez-Llamas was convicted March 13 on attempted aggravated murder, attempted murder and first-degree assault, among a slew of other charges, for firing a handgun at two officers in a brief shootout in December 1999. Jackson County Judge Ray White last week sentenced Sanchez-Llamas to 10 years in prison for the attempted aggravated murder conviction. Sanchez-Llamas will spend another seven years in prison for the first-degree assault conviction under the state�s mandatory sentencing guidelines. Convictions on two first-degree burglary counts added another three years to Sanchez-Llamas� sentence. He�ll be eligible for early release after about 19 years in prison. "We were hoping for a little more time" added to the sentence, said Jackson County District Attorney Mark Huddleston, who prosecuted the case. "But frankly, it�s a great sentence. I�m pleased with it." It�s not clear when Sanchez-Llamas will begin serving his sentence. Once Sanchez-Llamas is released from prison, he will be deported to Mexico, according to Huddleston.
