Mike Budreau, had told us earlier in the week that the gazebo had seen heavy usage recently from illegal campers and others, and that the tape had been put up to prevent su

Fishing-rule changes will target 'flossing'

Mail Tribune (Medford, OR — Wayback) · snapshot 2018-12-23

A subset of upper Rogue River bank anglers sound like they are taking the advice of their dentists as they ply their latest version of illegal and unethical fishing techniques when chasing tough-to-catch spring chinook salmon. The trick is known as "flossing," a form of snagging that tries to look and sound legal even though it is no better than trying to ram a treble hook into a chinook's tail and haul it in backward. With a leader as long as their body dangling behind a tear-drop sinker, the f

Quaking and shaking in Medford (Oklahoma, that is)

Mail Tribune (Medford, OR — Wayback) · snapshot 2018-12-23

Medford, Oregon, and Medford, Oklahoma, are worlds apart culturally and demographically. Suffice to say there are more students in the band at either North Medford or South Medford here than in the entire student body in Oklahoma's Medford High.  It's dog loving vs. dogie punching, mountain vs. prairie, not to mention Ducks vs. Sooners. Yet, for all the differences, there is a common cause for concern: While Southern Oregon braces itself for the long-awaited Big One, Oklahoma's Grant County
