Mike Barry won the city golf championship by five shots. It wasn’t as comfortable as it sounds. After he made a birdie on the last hole today for a 1-over-par 73, Barry admitted, “It was a good way to finish, but it was a rough day all the way around.” Barry’s second men’s open division title in Rogue Valley Stroke Play Championships — the other came in 2010 — was fraught with side trips off the fairways or excursions into bunkers. He twice was in trouble in hay that runs along the fairways, man

The No. 1 hole on the outer edge of Rogue Valley Country Club has been pretty good to Medford native Mike Barry, and that trend continued in thrilling fashion Sunday for the four-time men’s champion in the semifinals of the 89th Southern Oregon Golf Championships. Missing a prime chance to end his match in regulation with a 5-foot putt that lipped out, Barry certainly was bummed but couldn’t help but gain a second wind as he and the rest of his semifinal foursome walked past the clubhouse and ba

By Kris Henry Mail Tribune Little brother tagging along with big brother is an age-old scene for those who have grown up with siblings, but it’s also a rarity when it comes to the Medford Mustangs. Several brothers have come through the vaunted American Legion AAA program over the years, but what Jack and Bennett Thompson are providing this summer is pretty unique. For the first time since Hayden and Jared Evans donned Mustangs uniforms together in 2013, another set of brothers is doing the same

If Medford Mustangs manager Nate Mayben hadn’t seen it firsthand, there is no way he would have believed it. For the second straight day at the American Legion AAA Northwest Regionals, Mayben’s Mustangs carried a two-run lead into the final inning but were unable to hold that edge, this time falling 6-5 to Waipahu of Hawaii to be eliminated Thursday morning at Ogren Park in Missoula, Montana. “I don’t know what else to say other than I guess it just wasn’t in the cards for us,” said Mayben, whos
