Quick Start
Installation | p
1. Insert the speaker stands into the bottom of the speaker boxes.
Note: Do not attach the stands if you plan to mount the unit to a wall. (See Wall
Mounting in Detailed Instructions.)
2. Insert the main stand into the bottom of the main unit.
3. Connect the speaker plugs to the speaker jacks on the main unit.
Note: Do not connect or disconnect the speaker plugs while unit is powered on.
Warning! The left and right speaker jacks are designed for the supplied speaker
connections only. Do not attempt to plug in headphones or other devices. This
will damage the headphones or other connected device and cause a hazard.
4. Connect the FM antenna wire to the antenna jack.
5. For clock backup, install 2 AAA batteries (purchase separately) into the backup
battery compartment.
6. Connect the AC adapter cable to the power jack of the main unit.
7. Insert the AC adapter plug into an AC wall outlet.
8. To activate the remote control's battery, remove the plastic tab from the remote
battery compartment.
Tuner/Radio Operation
1. Plug the external wire antenna into the FM antenna jack on the back of the
main unit and extend.
2. To activate the radio, press the BAND button. Press the BAND button again to
select AM or FM band.
3. To manually tune to desired station, repeatedly press the M4 or » button.
4. To automatically search for stations with strong signals, press and hold the
M4 or»! button until the display begins to scan, then release the button.
The tuner will stop on the first strong station signal it finds.

E CD Player Operation
Press the POWER button.
Press the CD DOOR OPEN button. The CD door opens automatically.
Press CD onto spindle.
To close the CD door, press the CD DOOR OPEN button.
To start CD playback, press the PLAY/PAUSE button.
Adjust the sound level using VOL +/- buttons.
To skip to the desired CD track, press the M4 or > button.
To fast-forward or rewind within the track playing, press and hold the M4 or »»
button.
9. To pause CD playback, press the PLAY/PAUSE button. To resume playback,
press the PLAY/PAUSE button again.
10.To stop CD playback, press the STOP button.
11.To turn off the unit, press the STOP button again.

Installation
1. Insert the speaker stands into the bottom of the speaker boxes. (See figure below.)
Note: Do not attach the stands if you plan to mount the unit to a wall. (See Wall
Mounting below.)
2. Insert the main stand into the bottom of the main unit. (See figure below.)
3. Connect the speaker plugs to the left and right speaker jacks on the main unit.
(See figure below.)
Note: Do not connect or disconnect the speaker plugs while unit is powered on.
Warning! The left and right speaker jacks are designed for the supplied speaker
connections only. Do not attempt to plug in headphones or other devices. This
will damage the headphones or other connected device and cause a hazard.
4. Connect the FM antenna wire to the antenna jack. (See figure below.)
5. For clock backup, install 2 AAA batteries (purchase separately) into the backup
battery compartment. (See figure below.)
6. Connect the AC adapter cable to the power jack of the main unit. (See figure below.)
7. Insert the AC adapter plug into an AC wall outlet.
8. To activate the remote control's battery, remove the plastic tab from the remote
battery compartment. (See figure below.)

Wall Mounting
If you wish to mount the unit to a wall:
1. Remove speaker stands, if attached, from the bottom of the speaker boxes.
2. Remove main unit stand, if attached, from the main unit.
3. To join the main unit and speakers together, slide the wall mount bar into the
slot along the back. (See figure below.)
4. Wrap the extra speaker wire around the holder. (See figure below.)

5. To mark the screw positions, use the included wall mount diagram.
Install the screws at the marked positions.
7. Mount the unit on the wall by placing the holes on the wall mount bar onto
the screws.
Tuner/Radio Operation
External FM Antenna
Plug the external wire antenna into the FM antenna jack on the back of the main unit
and extend. Reception quality depends on the length of the antenna from the base of
the unit to the floor. The greater the distance, the stronger the reception quality.
Radio Tuning
1. To activate the radio, press the BAND button. Press the BAND button again to
select AM or FM band.
2. To manually tune to desired station, repeatedly press the M4 or » button.
3. To automatically search for stations with strong signals, press and hold the
M4 or >» button until the display begins to scan, then release the button. The
tuner will stop on the first strong station signal it finds.

Notes:
e Use manual tuning to select weaker stations that might be bypassed during
automatic tuning.
e If the automatic tuning does not stop on the exact frequency of the station, for
example, it stops on 100.85 MHz instead of 100.8 MHz, use the manual tuning
method to "fine tune" to the exact frequency of the desired station.
Radio Preset Stations
The unit allows you to store up to 10 AM and 10 FM stations in the tuner preset
memories for easy recall at any time.
1. To activate the radio, press the BAND button. Press the BAND button again to
select AM or FM band.
2. Tune to the radio station you want to store in memory using the M4 or »»
button.
3. Press the MEM/MODE button. The preset channel number "01" appears on
display.
4. To select desired preset station number, press the CH+ or CH- button.
5. To confirm preset location, press the MEM/MODE button.
6. To store up to 10 AM and 10 FM station presets, repeat steps 2 - 5 above.
9kHz/10kHz Setting
If the unit is moved to a different country (outside the U.S.A.) with a slightly differ-
ent AM broadcast system, you can change the default 10kHz setting to 9kHz per
tuning step.
1. To view the current kHz setting, press the SET button seven times.
2. To modify the KHz setting press the M4 or > button until 9KHz appears on
the LCD.
3. To store the setting, press the MEM/MODE button.

CD Playback
1. Press the POWER button.
Press the OPEN button. The CD door opens automatically.
Press CD onto spindle.
To close the CD door, press the OPEN button.
To start CD playback, press the PLAY/PAUSE button.
Adjust the sound level using VOL +/- buttons.
To skip to the desired CD track, press the M4 or » button.
To fast-forward or rewind within the track playing, press and hold the M4 or »»
button.
9. To pause CD playback, press the PLAY/PAUSE button. To resume playback,
press the PLAY/PAUSE button again.
10.To stop CD playback, press the STOP button.
11.To turn the unit off, press the STOP button again.
CD Play Modes
e Repeat Play:

1. To repeat playback of one track, press the MEM/MODE button once. A repeat
icon and "1" appears on the LCD.
2. To repeat playback of an entire CD, press the MEM/MODE button twice. A
repeat icon and "ALL" appears on the LCD.
e Intro Play:
1. To play the first 10 seconds of each track on the disc, press the MEM/MODE
button three times. "INTRO" appears on the LCD.
2. To begin intro play from track #1, press the PLAY/PAUSE button.
e Random Play:
1. To play CD tracks in random order, press the MEM/MODE button four times.
"RND" appears on the LCD.
2. To begin random play, press the PLAY/PAUSE button. The track number is
selected at random and playback starts.
To cancel a CD play mode, press STOP at any time.

CD Program Playback
This feature allows you to program up to 20 tracks to play in a desired order.
1. With CD playback stopped, press the PGM button once. "PGM" and "00"
(track number) indicators flash on the display.
2. To select the track number for the first program position, press the M4 or »»
button.
3. When desired track number is displayed, press the PGM button to set the
position. Track number "00" indicator flashes on the display again.
4. To program up to 20 tracks, repeat steps 2 and 3 until all desired tracks are
entered.
5. To begin programmed playback, press the PLAY/PAUSE button. The "PGM"
indicator stops flashing and the CD starts programmed playback.
6. To cancel programmed playback, press the STOP button.
Notes:
elf you press the M4 or pb button during programmed playback, the unit will skip
forward to the next track in the program, not necessarily the next track on the
disc.
e The CD play modes function in the same manner as during normal CD play-
back. (See CD Play Modes above.)
Auxiliary Input
1. Connect an audio cable from the auxiliary device into the AUX INPUT jacks
(L & R). (See figure below.)

2. To turn the unit on, press the POWER button.
3. Turn on the auxiliary device.
4. To select auxiliary audio input, press the AUX button. The volume and equaliz-
er can now be controlled through the main unit. Operate all other functions
on the auxiliary device as usual.

Clock and Calendar Setting
1. Press the SET button 3 times. The clock display flashes.
To set the hour, press the M4 or ۱ button.
To set the minutes, press the VOL- or VOL+ button.
To select the clock format, press the SET button.
To select 12- or 24-hour format, press the M4 or » button.
To set the calendar, press the SET button. The year flashes.
To set the year, press the M4 or » button.
To set the month and date, press the SET button. The month and date flash.
9. To set the month, press the M4 or >» button.
10.To set the date, press the VOL- or VOL+ button.
11.To save all settings and exit the setting mode, press the MEM/MODE button or
wait 15 seconds.

Setting the Alarm
1. Press the SET button once. The clock display for the alarm flashes.
To set the hour, press the M4 or » button.

Press the SET button again. The alarm source icon flashes.
To select to wake to a buzzer, radio or CD, press the VOL- or VOL+ button
until the desired icon appears on the LCD.

6. If the CD alarm source is selected, press the M4 or » button to select desired
CD alarm track. Ensure a CD is loaded into the unit.
7. To save all settings and exit the alarm setting mode, press the MEM/MODE
button or wait 15 seconds.
8. To activate the daily alarm, press the ALARM ON/OFF button. A bell icon
appears on the LCD.
9. When the current time matches the alarm setting, the alarm sounds from the
selected source.
Wake to Buzzer
e |f a buzzer alarm is selected, at the set alarm time a crescendo buzzer sounds for
one minute. To turn the buzzer alarm off immediately, press the ALARM
ON/OFF button. The alarm resets itself for the next day.

e If no button is pressed for one minute, the alarm goes into auto snooze mode.
The buzzer temporarily turns off for 9 minutes and then sounds again. Auto
snooze repeats three times. After the fourth time the alarm shuts off until the
next day.
e You may also activate the Snooze function manually within the first minute after
the alarm sounds by pressing the SNOOZE button. The buzzer temporarily turns
off for 9 minutes and then sounds again. Manual snooze can be repeated three
times. After the fourth time the alarm shuts off until the next day.
Wake to Radio
elf a radio alarm is selected, at the set alarm time the radio turns on at a low
volume and gradually becomes louder. To turn off the radio alarm immediately,
press the ALARM ON/OFF button. The alarm resets itself for the next day.
e If no button is pressed, the radio plays for 15 minutes then automatically shuts
off and resets itself for the next day.
e To activate the snooze function within the first two minutes of the radio alarm,
press the SNOOZE button. The radio temporarily turns off for 9 minutes and
then turns on again. The manual snooze operation may be repeated three times.
Each time the radio turns on, it will play for 15 minutes if no other button is
pressed.
Wake to CD
elf a CD alarm is selected, at the set alarm time the selected track plays at a low
volume and gradually becomes louder. To turn off the CD alarm immediately,
press the ALARM ON/OFF button. The alarm resets itself for the next day.
e If no button is pressed, the CD plays for 15 minutes (or to the end of the CD,
whichever comes first) then automatically shuts off and resets itself for the next day.
e To activate the snooze function within the first two minutes of the CD alarm,
press the SNOOZE button. The CD temporarily turns off for 9 minutes and then
turns on again. The manual snooze operation may be repeated three times. Each
time the CD turns on, it will play for 15 minutes if no other button is pressed.
Sleep Timer
1. The sleep timer allows you to set the unit to turn off after a selected length of
time.
2. To activate the sleep timer, turn the unit on and either load the desired CD or
tune to the desired radio station.
3. To select the sleep timer to turn the unit off after 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes,
press the SLEEP button 1, 2, 3 or 4 times. The unit plays for the selected
length of time and then automatically turns off.

4. To turn the unit off before the selected length of time, press the POWER but-
ton at any time.
Note: If you activate the sleep timer while a CD is playing, the unit will only con-
tinue until the end of the disc and then shut off automatically no matter the sleep
timer setting. For example, if your CD is only 30 minutes long and a 45-minute
sleep timer is selected, the unit will shut off approximately 30 seconds after the
disc ends.
Care and Maintenance
Reset Button
If the unit is subjected to a severe power surge or electric shock, it is possible that
the internal micro-controller may "lock up" and the unit will not respond to any
commands from the front panel controls or remote control.
1. In this event, unplug and then reconnect the AC adapter into the wall outlet.
2. Use a straightened paper clip, toothpick or similar blunt object to press the
RESET button located inside the pinhole in the backup battery compartment.
(See figure below.) The reset operation clears the system memory and all of
your previous settings will be erased.
Caution: DO NOT use a sharp, pointed object to press the RESET button. It may
damage the reset switch inside the unit.

Troubleshooting Guide
If the unit ceases to function properly, check the following before seeking service.

This warranty runs for 90 days from the date of original purchase.
What Is Not Covered
This warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse or use other than as intended and described
in the product instruction manual, or loss or damage to batteries or removable parts.
What The Sharper Image Will Do
The Sharper Image will repair any defects in materials or workmanship. In the event repair is not
possible, The Sharper Image will either replace this product with one of similar features and price,
or refund the full purchase price of the product, whichever you prefer.
