This chapter presents case studies from 13
enterprises across China and the Middle East,
highlighting how industries are leveraging
technology to address challenges at the water-
food nexus, illustrating practical approaches to
innovation and implementation. The integrated
application of multiple technologies is also showing
promising potential. However, adoption and scale
require addressing systemic barriers, including the
challenges detailed below.Fragmented innovation
ecosystem
A fragmented innovation ecosystem – marked by
disjointed regulations, scarce long-term funding
and volatile start-up pipelines – remains a critical
barrier to scaling-up green solutions. For example,
overlapping mandates between agricultural and
environmental agencies can complicate approvals
for smart irrigation projects. 2.2 Innovation at the crossroads:
industry applications and lessons learned
Driving innovation in the food and water sectors is not only an urgent need,
but also our responsibility. At Organic and Beyond, we understand that
expanding organic agriculture relies not only on sustainable production
models, but also on building trust-based partnerships with farmers and
demand-driven collaboration with enterprises. We deeply understand that true
sustainability can only be achieved through a systems approach to ecosystem
restoration. From soil and water stewardship to biodiversity protection and
carbon reduction, we prioritize ecological balance in every project.
