Reimagining Collaboration in XR Lessons from the Global Collaboration Village 2025

All rights reserved2022 – Early phase: The Village debuted in May as an early prototype during the rise of metaverse experimentation, testing foundational features and gathering initial partner feedback. 2023 – Expansion phase: The platform introduced its first permanent, issue-based hubs, including the Ocean Hub, and demonstrated their potential for sustained engagement. 2024 – Operational maturity: The Village matured into an operational platform, enabling real-time collaboration in multiple thematic areas and expanding use cases by means of immersive design.2025 – AR evolution: The Forum piloted the next- generation platform with augmented reality and spatial computing capabilities, while continuing to operate the legacy VR experience in parallel. In 2025, with three years of exploration completed, the World Economic Forum began a phased wind- down of the Village, as part of a broader evolution of its digital strategy. The insights and experiences it generated continue to inform future approaches to technology-enabled collaboration for public purpose.
