--> --> Nov. 20: SOU goes `Carolling' Not only has the Southern Oregon University football team muscled its way into the final eight of the NAIA playoffs, but it also found a spot on the editorial page. The paid crowd at last Saturday's first round game against McKendree College was 2,512. There was room for another 1,500. This Saturday's game against Carroll College will certainly draw 4,000. We predict it. We implore it. The Raiders are No. 7 in the nation in the NAIA ranks. Carroll College sports a No. 4 ranking. The Fighting Saints of Carroll College - out of Helena, Montana - are No. 1 in the nation in defense against the run. They beat No. 12 Valley City State last week, 45-27. It doesn't matter. As anyone who has watched SOU this season will tell you, no one will beat them. Quite simply, they're too good. So good that The Tidings editor has placed a considerable wager on Saturday's game with the editor of the Helena, Montana paper (Independent Record) - an otherwise amiable chap named Dave Shors. The winner is owed a Letter to the Editor in praise of his winning team. The loser has to write the letter. The Tidings has no intention of sending a letter to Helena. See you at the game.
