Fire in the Heart: The Creative Spirit "Fire in the Heart: The Creative Spirit," an exhibition that features 41 artists from The Society of Layerists in Multi-Media (SLMM), will be exhibited from June 27 through September 13 at the Schneider Museum of Art. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 26. "Fire in the Heart" is a juried exhibition organized by the Schneider Museum to coincide with the society's national conference. Founded in 1982 by Mary Carroll Nelson, The Society of Layerists in Multi-Media serves as a network for a group of artists who express a holistic viewpoint in their art. A wide variety of themes are explored in the exhibition, including spirituality, healing, cosmic forces, and the natural landscape as metaphor. The artists work in a variety of media, including printmaking, mixed media, collage, photo transfer and painting. The exhibit coincides with the national meeting of SLMM members at the Ashland Springs Hotel from June 25 to 29. Pentimento, a special panel discussion with SLMM members will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 28, in the Meese Auditorium, Art Building on the Southern Oregon University campus. All the events are free and open to the public. The Schneider Museum of Art is located on the Southern Oregon University campus on the corner of Siskiyou Boulevard and Indiana Street in Ashland, Oregon. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, and First Fridays from 10 a.m.tp 7 p.m. There is a $2 suggested donation.
