--> --> July 17: Ashland bounced from D-6 tourney Ashland Daily Tidings WHITE CITY - Upper Rogue scored six runs in the seventh inning to clinch a 9-2 win over Ashland on Tuesday in the loser-out semifinal of the 11-to-12-year-old District 6 softball tournament at Southern Oregon Fields. The win bounces Ashland from the double-elimination tournament and advances Upper Rogue to the finals, where it will play South Suburban at 6 tonight. Upper Rogue must beat South Suburban twice in the championship round to claim the district title and earn the lone berth at the state tournament. Ashland led 1-0 after one and 2-1 after two but was held scoreless the rest of the way, as Upper Rogue scored once in the fifth and once in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead into the seventh. There, UR used three consecutive doubles by Trinity Hamner, Terrah Whipple and Liz Leonardo to break the game open. Emily McLaughlin pitched the first five innings for Ashland, holding Upper Rogue to five hits (all singles). Talia Engle took over in the sixth for Ashland. Upper Rogue pitchers Amanda Hamner and Kirsten Emigh held Ashland to two hits on the day, both singles. Jona Peters and Kayla Smith each smacked a single for Ashland. Email your...
