--> --> Dec. 20: Grizz boys splash past Black Tornado Ashland Daily Tidings MEDFORD - Ashland High senior Brad Scoles kept his perfect swim season intact with a pair of victories Wednesday while leading his Grizzlies to an 86-74 victory over North Medford. North won the girls event 87-82. Scoles - undefeated on the season - claimed gold in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 1:59.96. The state water polo MVP also finished first in the 100 freestyle (52.90). Scoles teamed with sophomores Jeremy Johnson and Nathan Jessop and freshman Geoff Berteau to win the 200 freestyle relay and then joined forces with Jessop, and freshmen Caleb Salmond and Ross Mather for a first place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Salmond had the other Grizz victory with a blue ribbon effort in the 100 backstroke (1:10.59). Mather (100 breaststroke), Johnson (500 freestyle) and Berteau (200 individual medley) each came away with second place finishes. On the girls side Haley Scoles claimed first in the 50 freestyle in a time of 29.95. Faye Walker added a first place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:29.40). The Ashland relay team of Scoles, Michelle Smith, Lia Little and Ava Godfrey won the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 2:06.33. Ashland is now off until Jan. 15 when they travel to Grants Pass.
