SOU to hold Mother's Day scrimmage Head coach Jeff Olson on Wednesday announced his Southern Oregon University football team will conduct its 2003 Spring intrasquad game at Raider Stadium on Mother's Day. The event, set for Sunday, May 11 at noon, will be a controlled scrimmage featuring 13 returning starters and 40 letterwinners from last year's 8-3 Raider team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA playoffs and finished with a No. 6 ranking. The family-oriented afternoon will also feature Red, the Raider mascot, and a post-game barbeque for mothers, parents and family members of SOU players. Admission is free. Headlining the event are the squad's four returning senior All-Americans - running back Dusty McGrorty, defensive end Garret Gelker, kicker/punter Steve Baker and offensive lineman Todd Wesolowski - as well as senior quarterback Dan Woodward of Eagle Point, who passed for 1,900 yards as a junior. McGrorty finished the 2002 season needing only 848 yards and four touchdowns to surpass former Raider Griff Yates as the top rusher and scorer in Northwest small-college history. Southern Oregon is 30-11 dating back to the final game of the 1998 season, and it enters the 2003 campaign having won 13 straight regular-season games against NAIA opponents and 14 of the last 15 regular-season home games.
