Petrof Series Petrof Series showcases local musicians Brian Kerns, Jane Manning, Susan Flynn, Fred Rone, Madeline Abel-Kerns and Jodi French. A double recital featuring six local classical musicians will be offered as part of the Petrof Series at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 23 at the Unitarian Center, 4th and C Streets, Ashland. This performance will feature pianist Jane Manning in the first half playing works by Frederick Chopin, Etude Op. 25, No. 2 & Prelude Op. 28, No. 17, Francis Poulenc, from "Trois Pieces", No. 2 Toccata and Sergei Rachmaninoff, Etude Tableux, Op. 39, No. 8, "Daisies" Op. 38, No. 3 and Romance, Op. 10, No. 6. The first half will conclude with the adagio movement from Sergei Rachmaninoff's Sonata in G minor for Cello and Piano, featuring cellist Susan Flynn. The second half will feature Brian Kerns, tenor, with Fred Rone, piano, in Anton Dvorak's haunting song cycle, "Gypsy Melodies" (sung in German), followed by operatic arias and excerpts from W.A. Mozart's "Idomeneo", Richard Wagner's "Das Rheingold" and Giacomo Puccini's intensely emotional "Nessun dorma" from "Turandot" with Jane Manning, piano. Interspersed between these works will be special guest artists Madeline Abel-Kerns, soprano, and Jodi French, piano, performing an "Ave Maria" by Caccini, Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise" for Soprano and Piano, and the "Marschallin's Lied" from Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier. There will be one 15 minute intermission. Refreshments will be served during intermission and afterwards. The suggested donation is $12, but any amount will be gratefully accepted.
