New community of theatre artists forming in Ashland Theatre of the Heart is seeking theatre artists interested in exploring the metaphysical roots of theatre and creating physical theatre that creates communion in performance. Inspired by Balinese ritual theatre, Antoine Artaud called for theatre to return to its physical and nonverbal roots, immersing audiences in a profound intoxication of ecstasy. Theatre of the Heart is an experimental theatre company whose goal is to respond to Artaud's call and create theatre that communicates heart to heart with its audiences. It creates original work that explores the metaphysical questions of the nature and meaning of life to include the impact of supernatural or divine influences on humanity. The members of Theatre of the Heart are "athletes of the heart" who use direct, immediate physical language to reveal the emotional and spiritual lives of the characters. It is a theatre of movement, voice, color and music created through the collaboration of the company artists who not only perform, but also write, direct, and design the productions. The company artists include traditional theatre artists as well as dancers, sculptors, painters and poets.
