--> --> Dec. 22: Grizz girls fall to No. 9 Redmond Ashland Daily Tidings At Ashland, junior post Marla Morin scored a career-high 33 points and pulled down 14 rebounds but the Ashland girls basketball team still suffered its third straight defeat, 83-68 Friday night at the Mountain Avenue gym. The non-conference loss dropped the Grizzlies to 2-6 overall, while Redmond of the Intermountain Conference remained undefeated at 6-0. Ashland got off to a slow start, falling behind 18-6 after one quarter to the No. 9-ranked Panthers. The Grizzlies outscored Redmond 47-46 over the next two quarters but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. "We started taking care of the rebounds and kind of worked on our turnovers and then we were able to actually run our offense," Ashland coach Stephanie Santos said. The Grizzlies were once again plagued by turnovers, committing 26 against the Panthers' full-court press. Redmond was paced by Darcee Perdue, who scored 24 points. Junior post Julia Sobolik added 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who also got 14 points and seven rebounds from fellow junior post Chloe Hansen. "They played really well and they totally stepped up," Santos added. " We still need to come out with a little bit more intensity, but they did pick it up and maintained for (the last) three quarters."
