Celebrating the return of the birds Wednesday May 9, 2018 at 7:01 PM May 9, 2018 at 7:01 PM The theme of this year’s Rogue Valley Bird Day, the local celebration of World Migratory Bird Day, is “Year of the Bird.” The free event, set for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 12, in North Mountain Park, highlights the many ways to help protect migratory birds as they make their remarkable journey between wintering and nesting sites. This annual event is an opportunity to learn about local birds and share the joy of welcoming our local migrants for the summer. There will be bird walks, games, bird-calling contests and a live raptor exhibit hosted by Wildlife Images. Bird walks begin at 8:15 a.m. and leave from the pavilion every 30 minutes. Bird-calling contests begin at 11 a.m. This outdoor event takes place at 620 North Mountain Ave. in Ashland.
