I wondered if she understood the trauma and fear that enveloped those in a true theater of battle, who placed their lives on the line because they made a commitment to follow the orders of our elected leaders. I wondered if she knew the worry felt by military spouses and families left behind to fend for themselves on the paltry salaries we pay those who face death on our behalf. It is hard for me to pretend not to know. It is hard for me to ignore the daily death toll that continues to creep higher, signaling the beginning of mourning for another American family with each tick.
