By Ian Hand DailyTidings.com By Ian Hand Posted Aug. 8, 2014 @ 2:00 am By Ian Hand Posted Aug. 8, 2014 @ 2:00 am » Social News Traci Darrow and Garrett Furuichi were appointed to fill vacancies on the Ashland Citizen Budget Committee on Tuesday at a meeting of the Ashland City Council. The positions, previously held by Joan Williamson and Lynn Thompson, were vacated in February and March, respectively. Williamson moved to a home outside of the city limits and Thompson was appointed to the Planning Commission. Four applications for the vacant positions were received. Darrow is a registered nurse at Ashland's Community Health Center. She graduated from Southern Oregon University in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in political science and received her nursing degree in 2007 from the Oregon Health & Science University School of Nursing. She worked as the Southern Oregon Field Representative for Senator Ron Wyden for 12 years. Furuichi, a small business owner in Ashland, attended California State University — Sacramento and Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He holds a master's degree in corporate finance and real estate/land use. Furuichi was previously the San Francisco Parks and Recreation Department's budget officer, overseeing its annual budget of $65 million. Darrow's term ends Dec. 31, 2017, while Furuichi's term ends Dec. 31, 2014. Oregon requires that local governments establish budget committees made up of citizen members and elected officials. The committee's role is to assure that the city's budget document and fiscal practices address fiscal priorities and policies established by the city council as well as long-term plans and specific goals developed by the council and the Ashland Parks Commission.
