--> --> Ashland High band members were out of control On Friday night, Oct. 25th, I went to the Ashland High football game. I went to watch, not a football game, but to see a group of young men, seniors, and their parents honored and to see a man, Tim Brown, who has given over 30 years of his own life to help students prepare for their future, recognized for that sacrifice. I was angered at what I encountered. During the ceremony, the Ashland High band was lined up waiting to go on the field to play the Star Spangled Banner, and it was evident they cared only about themselves. I heard almost nothing said by Jim Nagel as the band members were laughing, talking, and shouting so loud as to drown out anything being said on the field. No adult (band teacher?) was making any effort to rein in their disrespect for their classmates or for the teacher/coach who was being honored. It appeared evident that nothing had been said beforehand about what was acceptable and respectable behavior. Whether or not they know it, they were an embarrassment to their school, their classmates, their teacher, their parents and themselves. I do not believe they deserve to represent their school or their country (playing the National Anthem) until they learn to look beyond their only self-gratification. L.
