--> --> Avis McGee Anderson Funeral services for former Ashland resident Avis McGee Anderson are planned for 6 p.m. on Saturday at Mt. View Cemetery, 440 Normal Ave., Ashland. Anderson, 88, died on Sunday in Corvallis. She was born in Redding, Calif. to Allen and Lottie McGee. She was raised primarily in Ashland, although during her elementary school years, her family homesteaded in Kamloops, B.C. The family later returned to Ashland, where Anderson graduated from Ashland High School and subsequently received her teaching credentials at Southern Oregon College of Education. She also attended Oregon State College. Anderson taught in several small Oregon towns, including Eddyville and Tualatin. She married Colver F. Anderson in 1940 in Ashland and they had three sons. Due to her husband's geology career, the family moved often and lived, at various times, in most of the western states. In 1964, the family returned to Ashland. Mr. Anderson passed away in 1998 and she moved to Corvallis with her son and his family, where she spent the rest of her life. An avid gardener, painter and reader, Anderson also enjoyed sewing and camping and regularly attended Methodist church services. She is survived by her sons, Richard Anderson of Corvallis, Ore., Allen Anderson of Centralia, Wash and Edward Anderson of Tenino, Wash; four grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren Memorial contributions can be made to the Ashland Methodist Church building fund.
